IPL, and Lasers. Fascinating technology.

IPL and Lasers can be used to remove unwanted body hair, clear Acne, clear Rosacia and give Anti-Aging benefits.

Acne:
One of the more exciting treatment options with the IPL or Intense Pulsed Light machine these days is its treatment within the acne regimen. Now for many years the only way acne was treated was with topical agents or with Accutane. More recently, and with the development of the Intense Pulsed Light machine, acne is now treated by IPL treatments. How does it work? Specifically the IPL targets the sebaceous gland where the oil is secreted and really just zaps that area. By getting rid of the sebaceous glands and the oil, obviously the acne is diminished. Now, it's not going to permanently get rid of all of the acne glands. It probably lasts about three or four months, but for patients that either have adult acne or don't want to take Accutane it's a nice treatment that can be offered.

Hair removal:
IPL or laser treatment only destroys hairs when they are in the growth phase. At any one moment 20% of hairs are resting or dormant. Repeated sessions will treat these hairs when they re-enter the growth phase. Generally all areas will require at least six treatments at 4-6 weekly intervals, depending on the area being treated. This depends on many factors including your skin and hair type, ethnic background, hormonal balance and skin sensitivity. It is not possible to categorically state how many treatments an individual will need, however this will be discussed at your consultation.

Anti-Aging:
The IPL system produces short pulses of intense light that are directed into the skin and absorbed by small blood vessels within the dermis and epidermis. This causes the skin to heat up and causes very mild, reversible thermal damage to the epidermis. The skin reacts to this damage by increasing the production of collagen which 'irons out' fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in an improved appearance of the skin texture. The glycolic skin peel both improves the effect of the IPL treatment by allowing the light to penetrate to the epidermis more effectively and it also improves skin appearance by removing dead skin cells and cleaning the skin of impurities

Rosacia:  Better to see it in action, so here is the best video I have found on the subject:
